Before the dunk contest, McClung shared some words with Shaquille O’Neal.
O’Neal laid it out for him plainly: “Nobody knows your name. Make ’em remember your name. And don’t miss a dunk.”
“I got you,” McClung responded.
He definitely did.
McClung’s work during the contest won him the top prize and also had fans and players on their feet.
Numerous people said that McClung put on the best Dunk Contest show in history.
His name was immediately racing through the blogosphere and NBA outlets as everyone reported on the breakout star and what could come next for him.
McClung’s road to the dunk contest is a long one.
He has only played in a few games in the NBA, during short stints with the Los Angeles Lakers and Chicago Bulls.
He was recently signed to a two-way contract with the Philadelphia 76ers, meaning he could spend more time in the G League or be called up to the pros throughout this season.
Only NBA diehards knew McClung before Saturday night but now there are millions of people who are eager to see what he does next.
